Aloha from Hawaii! We had the good fortune of staying with Geno's sister in her nephew's Honolulu condo. Taking the time to explore Oahu gave us a much better appreciation of this island.

Best of all, we got to know the Fukushima side of the family a little more -- mahalo for their kindess and hospitality. Second best, all da kine grinds (food) broke da mouth and were absolutely ono.

We also enjoyed six days in Maui. From our garden condo near Kihei, we ventured out to virtually every corner of the island. Geno rented a bike and had three great days of riding.

Mele Kalikimaka and Hauoli Makahiki Hau!

THE CONDO AND NEIGHBORHOOD

Our condo is on the 17th floor with views of surrounding mountains, downtown, and ocean

We have a terriffic view of the Punchbowl Crater across the valley

It's all take-out food.

View of condo from Buddhist Temple grounds One of two swimming pools in garden setting

Just two examples of local flowers...and no hummers around

Right below the condo is a graceful Buddhist Temple

A visit to Fukushima family plot. Emi's husband, Wilfred, is buried here.

Another Buddhist Temple in the neighborhood. It feels like we're in Japan.

The royal mausoleum where King Kamehameha families and Charles Bishop are entombed

One of many odd trees on the islands -- a sausage tree; the seed pods can reach 2 feet long.
