Table Mountain

A week after visiting Walker Ridge/Bear Valley, we took a day trip to Table Mountain near Oroville to see what was blooming on the mesa. Table Mountain is another area in Northern California well known for a profusion of wildflowers in a good year. The spring of 2005 is a great year!

As we drove up Cherokee Road on our way up to the top of the mesa, we saw a 100' waterfall cascading down the face of the mesa. This was an added bonus and a wonderful prelude to the spectacular vistas once we crested the mesa. On top, we were greeted by acres and acres of wildflowers in a rainbow of colors.

Most of the mesa is in private ownership, but there is property set aside and accessible to the public. We spent a good part of the day meandering around the mountain top which was swathed in brilliant colors -- yellows, blues, purples, whites, and oranges mixed with the lush green pasture grass.

The highlight of the day was following a creek down to the edge of the mesa to find a roaring 50' waterfall tumbling off the edge. A series of small streams emanating from springs on the mesa converged into one large creek forming this spectacular waterfall.
