After leaving the Grand Canyon, we drove east to Page via Hwy 89A, then looped back west to Kanab via Hwy 89. On the way, we stopped at Lee's Ferry, Navajo Bridge, Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell, and the Toadstool near Paria, before heading on to Bryce.

We hoped to see the popular Wave in Antelope Canyon but struck out on the lottery (only 10 people/day are selected to enter the canyon).

Stopping off at Lee's Ferry, a major launching point for Colorado River rafters These lucky folks are heading out for an 8-day trip down the Colorado

Yeozza!! She's a guide on one of the rafts Lock 'n' load . . . time to launch

Jay stands on the beach at Lee's Ferry How they used to cross the river

Navajo Bridge crosses the Colorado River at Marble Canyon --old bridge on left (peds only) and new bridge on right Nice interpretive center tells history of bridge and nearby Lee's Ferry. Construction of the bridge replaced the need for a boat crossing of the river.

The design of new bridge finished in 1995 (right) matches the old bridge (left) built in 1927-'29

An unexpected surprise. #02, a 4-year-old female condor, lands on bridge. What great timing.

A few minutes later, a staffer shoos the condor off the bridge. They don't want the condor
to get accustomed to people and lose their wildness.

One of the rafts we saw earlier putts under the bridge

View of the controversial Glen Canyon Dam. Beautiful site, butt ugly dam!

View of the Colorado River below the dam

Views of Lake Powell behind Glen Canyon Dam

Near Paria are the Toadstool formations Jay and the big toadstool

And several smaller ones This one sorta looks like the Sphinx

Like a mushroom, the underside has gills. . .well, sorta Obligatory group foto

A nice lunch break in Kanab on our way to Bryce

But stopping at another wacky roadside attraction . . . . . . with more odd formations

A woman whose car broke down in the 1920s established this rock home
out in the boondocks where she lived out her remaining life

next (Bryce)
