Our 4th day -- birding out in the Refuge Malheur Wildlife Refuge is quite beautiful
and full of birds, even in July

Another kind of purple thistle lines levee roads Great Horned Owl seen at Refuge Headquarters

The Malheur Wildlife Refuge is over 97,000 acres and streches for miles

We biked the tour road but most people drive it One of the cool ranch signs

Wetlands and cinder cones make for an interesting Refuge A Ruddy Duck and nine ducklings

Another fine Rickert meal -- baked chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and cole slaw

Owen taking a photo of a buck down the road We got lost taking a shortcut to
Diamond on our 6th day

Arriving in Diamond Valley where bikes are the only traffic

A couple cool Diamond Valley mailboxes

Owen hauled around his humongous Nikon camera on his bike Finally arrived in Diamond, population 5

It was sweltering and we looked for shade anywhere we could find it
