Last leg of our trip ended on Whidbey Island -- first, a tour of LaConner, a quaint seaside village

LaConner is an artsy town -- (L) a wire fish-sculpture gangplank, (R) totem

We camped one night at Deception Pass State Park

Here's why they call it Deception Pass

Moss-covered Sitka Spruce and Madrones on the Goose Rock Trail

Trail passes through giant old growth trees

Not a fungus but a giant black slug munching on lichen Note the antennae and wavy creased body

Historic Deception Pass Bridge was built in 1935 and is the only drivable access to Whidbey Island Only other way to get on and off the island
is by ferry

Our tour ended at Ron and Carol Chaney's home on Whidbey Island. They were on the Costa Rica tour with Herb and Geno last December, and invited the group to spend time at their home at the end of our trip. They have a lovely home with a grand view of Oak Harbor.

The Chaneys were gracious hosts. We stayed two nights recuperating from our tour before the long drive home. It was a splendid way to end our trip.
